Description

Grapes for Die Kat Se Snor Sauvignon Blanc 2022 are from the Hemel-en-Aarde Region in the Walker Bay, just 15km from the Atlantic Ocean. The grapes were hand-picked and chilled overnight before being processed as whole-bunches and pressed to stainless steel tanks for overnight settling. The wine must was racked to older French oak the following day to undergo spontaneous alcoholic fermentation and then malolactic fermentation in barrel. It was then left on gross lees for 10 months. The wine was bottled unfiltered. A harmless sediment may develop over time. Bottled at 14%. (Bottle size 750ml).

Nose: Welcoming flinty minerality with notes of gooseberries and guava.

Palate: Mouthwatering citrus flavours on entry, followed by notes of green pepper alongside ripe sub-Saharan guavas with a dollop of cream.

Finish: Refreshing acidity with lingering notes of ripe guava on the finish.

Gerhard Smith’s regular job is at Creation in Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge but he also makes wine under his own label called Die Kat se Snor (which translates as “The Cat’s Whiskers” and honours his grandfather Kat, who used to wear an impressive moustache).
